What it is

Perimenopause is a phase of life for women where the ovaries begin to produce less estrogen and progesterone than they did previously. This hormonal shift can trigger symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruptions, dryness, and mood swings. 

What it's not

Though perimenopause can trigger those symptoms, that is not the only trigger, and the symptoms in and of themselves are not perimenopause.
